____________

She helped the Corps of Discovery find horses, interpret languages and find food.
Sacagawea traversed the same route the hardy soldiers with Lewis and Clark
took across an unmapped wilderness,
with a baby on her back.
Clark spoke highly of her and her son and thought
she deserved "greater reward" than the expedition could give her.
She was about 25 when she died, passing away at
a younger age than anyone on the expedition except
Sgt Charles Floyd who died on the upriver trip in 1804.
